On April 26, 2023 in Tashkent, the first Forum of Polish and Uzbek Rectors took place. The event brought in 50 rectors and representatives of the education sector from both countries. Professor Jerzy Lis, AGH University Rector, also participated in the meeting.
The purpose of the event was to intensify cooperation with Uzbek universities, to exchange experience in the fields of science and innovation, and to discuss the development of education and research. The themes discussed during the Forum revolved around the development strategy of higher education in Poland and Uzbekistan.
Currently, there are about 3,000 Uzbek students in Poland. This is one of the largest foreign groups of students in Poland (7th in terms of the number of students). Uzbekistan is one of the most promising admissions destinations for Polish higher education institutions.
Immediately after the first Forum of Polish and Uzbek Rectors, that is, between April 27 and 28, Tashkent hosted the IREG 2023 international ranking conference (Rankings and University International Exposure). A large representation of universities from Central Asia was to be found among its participants.
Both events created a unique opportunity for Polish universities to meet new partners and expand international cooperation.
The AGH University, together with the Poznan University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk, concluded an agreement on cooperation with the Samarkand State Architecture and Construction University.
The Forum of Polish and Uzbek Rectors in Tashkent and the IREG conference were accompanied by an educational fair within the ‘Study in Poland’ programme.
The event was organised by the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP) and the Conference of Rectors of Uzbekistan, with the support of the Polish Embassy in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek Embassy in Poland, and the Education Foundation “Perspektywy”.
