As a partner in the MULDiMediC project, the AGH University will intensively cooperate with the project’s leader, the Medical University of Lodz. The venture was recommended for funding from the Medical Research Agency in the call for establishment and development of Regional Centres of Digital Medicine (RCDM).
The aim of MULDiMediC is to reach new quality in biomedical and clinical medicine research. This multifaceted undertaking will strengthen the potential of key specialistic hospitals in łódzkie voivodeship in a holistic and coherent way, multiply research possibilities in molecular medicine and biobanking, but also create centres for analysis, testing, and applying information technology, biostatic, and bioinformatics solutions in clinical and scientific practice.
As stressed by the AGH University Rector, Prof. Jerzy Lis:
“The objective of the MULDiMediC project is to revolutionise the field of digital medicine. The AGH University’s contribution are advanced competencies in medical data analysis and information technology engineering. We are prepared to break the barriers in health care and take part in the development of digital medicine in Poland. The AGH University is honoured to work with the Medical University of Lodz on this truly significant project. This is a major challenge, but I am convinced that our cooperation will bring excellent results.”
The AGH University is responsible for tasks related to analysing data with the use of artificial intelligence methods, searching for patterns, enhancing the health care system, and implementing advanced dedicated solutions for the needs of hospitals.
On the part of the AGH University, the project is coordinated by:
The work on the project will be performed by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science, and Biomedical Engineering, the Institute of Computer Science, and the AGH University Academic Computer Centre CYFRONET.
The competition of the Medical Research Agency for the establishment of the Regional Centres for Digital Medicine is aimed at creating infrastructure, personnel, and system base ultimately enabling the forming of the Network of Regional Centres for Digital Medicine, which will result in the increase in the number of scientific research, particularly clinical trials, and favourable conditions for innovative drug, information, and other technologies relevant in health care.
The founding of the Regional Centres for Digital Medicine will not only contribute to improved effectiveness of patient treatment and their access to innovative therapies, but it will also increase the participation of Polish scientists in the development of medical sciences, allow for the satisfaction of society’s medical needs, as well as remove the barriers currently present in the health care system. What is more, another result of this undertaking will be the development of IT solutions in digital medicine making the analysis of medical data possible and solutions facilitating the work of doctors.
Financing (over half a billion PLN) 18 units from across Poland will influence the creation of infrastructure, providing access to a large number of credible data and, at the same time, maintaining control over its sources.
MULDiMediC received as many as 285 points (5th place in the ranking of applications) and funding in the amount of PLN 29,980,257.15. The Medical University of Lodz will operate together with the AGH University for the purpose of the MULDiMediC project within the Consortium which also includes:
