AGH University Media Centre with a film award

48 hours – that is how much time the filmmakers from the AGH University Media Centre had for making a film which obtained the Best Genre Film award (film noir) in the 48 Hour Film Project competition (Bielsko-Biała edition). The film “Randez-vous,” by Grypa Filmowa also got them nominated in three other categories: best director, best cinematography, and best music.

The 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP) is a one-of-a-kind international initiative, a competition and a festival at the same time. Each year, there are dozens of editions in various countries all around the globe. Time is always of the essence. The teams prepare a script for a short feature film, shoot it, and edit the whole thing in two days. The race against time begins during the kickoff, when the organisers reveal the mandatory elements each film must include. These are: hero, prop, and text. What is more, each team draws a film genre (two for each team, they may choose one or mix two of them). Films and production documents must be submitted within 48 hours, during the so-called dropoff. What takes place later are screenings and the official Awards Gala. It is then that the committee announces winners in a dozen of categories (best film, best director, best script, best editing, and so on). The best film in each local edition of the 48HFP gets to the international stage, and then the best 15 teams have an opportunity to show their creations at the festival in Cannes. The entirety of the festival is complemented by lectures and workshops by experts in film.

This edition of the 48HFP has seen 24 teams from all over Poland, including three from the AGH University Media Centre. Besides the awarded AGH University students, another one of our teams (Studio Bąk) was recognised and received nominations in 7 categories.
