Professor Tadeusz Słomka and Professor Krzysztof Tajduś are now part of the city scientific and technical council advising on the construction of metro appointed by the Krakow Mayor Aleksander Miszalski. The council will play a key role in decision-making during the planning and construction of metro in Krakow.
Professor Tadeusz Słomka is a former AGH University rector (2012-2016 and 2016-2020 terms of office). He has been managing the Department of General Geology, Environmental Protection, and Geotourism for 12 years. Professor Słomka also headed the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities of Technology and CRASP’s Innovation and Cooperation with Business Committee. A specialist in deposit geology and mathematical modelling of raw materials deposits.
Professor Krzysztof Tajduś is a specialist on underground construction, rock and soil mechanics, an expert on the impact of underground work, especially tunnelling, on the surface and building structures. He has repeatedly served as an external expert providing opinions on technical projects in the field of upheaval and changes in landforms caused by ongoing underground work in the Netherlands and Germany.
The council’s role will be to advise and provide expert opinions on matters related to the preparation, construction, and exploitation of the metro in Krakow.
The group includes seventeen specialists, leaded by Rector of the Cracow University of Technology, Professor Andrzej Szarata. Each member of the council is responsible for a different aspect relevant to the construction and operation of metro. Besides the AGH University scholars, the group also involves representatives of the Cracow University of Technology, Warsaw University of Technology, Poznan University of Technology, Jagiellonian University, Krakow University of Economics, Radom University, Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Railway Research Institute, and Metro Warszawskie sp. z o.o. (Warsaw metro company).
The appointed members of the council are professionals, experts in their fields, members of prestigious scientific and advisory bodies, and practitioners who have been involved in the matters of metro for years.
The council will meet every quarter, but the individual teams will meet much more frequently, once ever 2-3 weeks, even more often if necessary. Currently, the assessment report on the project’s environmental impact is under works, along with the analysis of passenger traffic flow and economic analysis. The fourth quarter of 2024 will see the appointment of the team for the construction of the Krakow metro and, after the environmental approval, the contract for the development of project documentation will be announced on the turn of the 2nd and 3rd quarter of 2025.
