On 8 May 2024, the AGH University of Krakow celebrated the 20th anniversary of the cooperation between the AGH University and the Shibaura Institute of Technology. The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Mr Miyajima Akio, the Ambassador of Japan to Poland, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, the management of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange and the Foundation for the Development of the Education System, university authorities, rectors, vice-rectors, graduates of the prestigious Energy and Environmental Engineering programme, as well as other members of the academic community.
In total, over one hundred and twenty guests took part in the ceremony, including the delegation from Japan. The live stream was watched by representatives of partner universities around the world. The event's host started the ceremony, followed by a welcoming speech of the AGH University Rector, Professor Jerzy Lis. Subsequently, the most important guests gave speeches. These were as follows:
Then, the graduates of joint studies in the field of Energy and Environmental Engineering (3E) were presented with diplomas by the President of the SIT, Dr Jun Yamada, and Professor Akito Takasaki, the course coordinator from the Japanese side, and the Dean of the Faculty of Energy and Fuels, Professor Monika Motak, and Professor Janusz Szmyd from the Polish side. Graduation diplomas were awarded to: Gregory Bond III, Eryk Jasak, Mateusz Mańka, Bartłomiej Sarwa and Paweł Sochański.
The highlight of the ceremony was the awarding of a doctoral degree and a diploma to Marcin Pająk who wrote and defended a doctoral thesis entitled "An Evolutionary Multi-Objective Optimization of The Catalyst Distribution in a Methane-Steam Reforming Reactor" under the supervision of Professor Janusz Szmyd and Professor Shinji Kimijima. Dr Marcin Pająk took a solemn oath in the presence of the gathered guests and his supervisor, Professor Szmyd, the Chairman of the Scientific Discipline Council: Environmental Engineering, Mining and Energy, Professor Stanisław Nagy, the Vice-Rector for Cooperation, Professor Rafał Wiśniowski, and the AGH University Rector.
The 20th anniversary of the cooperation between the SIT and AGH University was graced by the Song and Dance Ensemble "Krakus” under the baton of Jacek Mentel.
