Ministerial scholarships for outstanding young researchers

Three researchers and a doctoral student from our university have been awarded scholarships, granted by the Polish Minister of Science to outstanding young researchers. For the next three years, they are to receive PLN 5390 each month.

The awardees are:

  • Dr Martyna Ekiert-Radecka, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics
    field: engineering and technology
    discipline: biomedical engineering
  • Dr Ilona Agnieszka Jastrzębska, Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics
    field: engineering and technology
    discipline: materials engineering
  • Piotr Jurkiewicz, MSc Eng., Faculty of Computer Science, Electronics, and Communications
    field: engineering and technology
    discipline: information and communication technology;
  • Dr Klaudia Maj, Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science
    field: exact and natural sciences
    discipline: physical sciences

As many as 1708 applications have been submitted and then evaluated by an advisory team within individual disciplines of science and arts.  When selecting candidates for the scholarship, what has been applied was the approach of equality among disciplines of science and arts, i.e. granting a similar number of scholarships in all disciplines. Thus, young researchers could compete within a single discipline and not the entire field.

The scholarships have been awarded to 228 prominent young researchers, including 32 doctoral students representing 53 disciplines. The Ministry devoted the total of 44 million for said scholarships.
