IMPRESS-U is organised by institutions from six countries: Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine, and the USA. The initiator of the call for research projects, the National Science Foundation (NSF), acts as the lead agency in charge of merit-based evaluation of proposals.
The IMPRESS-U call for proposals is addressed at research teams from Poland which will conduct joint research together with research teams from Ukraine and the United States (optionally from Lithuania, Latvia and/or Estonia) within the framework of a joint research project.
The main objective of IMPRESS-U is to support good projects, promote and stimulate integration of Ukrainian researchers with the global environment and rebuild the research potential in Ukraine. The call also provides a new opportunity for the Polish teams to collaborate with American researchers.
The American agency funds research within all fields of science with the exclusion of humanities and medical sciences. When a Polish team applies for NCN funds, the applications submitted to the NSF within IMPRESS-U must be compliant with the provisions of the EAGER call (as it is applicable).
The leaders of Polish teams must have at least the PhD degree, whereas members of the teams carrying out tasks may be students, doctoral students, and post-docs.
The Board of the National Science Centre allocated PLN 10 million for projects carried out by Polish teams.
More details concerning the call
International teams may submit their applications for funding to the following partner institutions: US National Academy of Sciences (US NAS) – for Ukrainian researchers, Research Council of Lithuania (LMT), Latvian Council of Science (LCS), and Estonian Research Council (ETAG).
Polish researchers may submit applications within the IMPRESS-U programme also to the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). As part of its commitment, NAWA funds the so-called International Supplements, i.e. additional funds expanding the existing research projects already supported by the NSF with new components and partnerships. More information on the website of NAWA.
At the AGH University the call for proposals is managed by Centre for Project Management Support.
