Student initiatives awarded in Pro Juvenes competition

As many as three student initiatives from the AGH University won awards in the “Pro Juvenes” competition organised by the Students’ Parliament of the Republic of Poland. These are, as follows: Pomoc Psychologiczna AGH [psychological counselling at the AGH University], AGH Święta Dzieciom [AGH University Christmas for children], and ÓWKA AGH.

The AGH University psychological counselling was considered to be the best student health initiative. Its purpose was to make psychological counselling more accessible to the AGH University students. As part of the initiative, a survey was conducted and a large sample of students was studied, which resulted in higher availability of specialists, better communication, and increased awareness of students’ psychological needs.

The AGH University Christmas for Children is a yearly event held at the beginning of December, around the Saint Nicholas Day. Faculty Student Governments along with the commissions of the AGH University Student Government, but also Rector’s and Deans’ authorities, the AGH University Student Campus, research clubs, the Media Centre, and students join their forces to raise as much as possible for children in need. This initiative was the winning one in the “helping hand” category.

Whereas, the best in the student culture category, the AGH University ÓWKA project is addressed to enthusiasts of alcoholic beverages made for personal use and tasted in small quantities.

The “Pro Juvenes” competition is an initiative that has been undertaken by the Students’ Parliament of the Republic of Poland since 2013. The main objective of the competition is to promote active students and their ideas as well as to appreciate the contributions of student-friendly entities and those who support the potential of the young. By means of these awards, the Students’ Parliament of the Republic of Poland aims at creating an atmosphere of cooperation in academia and integrating students from all over Poland.

The winners are selected in online voting by the student environment. This year’s results were announced at an Awards Ceremony on November 25.
