Streszczenie

Neutron scattering has become an ideal tool to probe and understand a wide variety of critical phenomena in functional materials. With a few examples I will try to provide a quick overview of why neutrons are much superior compared to x-rays in certain cases and can be used to elucidate microscopic as well as macroscopic properties of materials. Emphasis will be given to lattice and magnetic structure studies of strongly correlated systems using neutrons under extreme conditions. A few fundamental aspects on applying for a neutron beam time will also be discussed.
